FAQs

You should have received an initial determination email detailing which scholarship you are eligible for (2-year/technical or 4-year). The next step to receive the award will be to complete the Update Application, which will be emailed to you in mid-June. If you did not receive an initial determination email, contact Achieve Atlanta.

You can use the Achieve Atlanta Scholarship at any accredited, non-profit or public college or technical program in the state of Georgia.

You may use the Scholarship at out-of-state institutions in limited circumstances. To take your Achieve Atlanta Scholarship outside Georgia, you must enroll in an accredited, non-profit or public college or technical program that has a graduation rate of at least 44% according to the College Scorecard. Currently, we do not provide additional coaching support to Achieve Atlanta students attending out-of-state institutions and therefore, must solely rely on the school’s history of graduating students successfully.

If you have already received notice that you are eligible for the Scholarship, you do not need to submit anything else at this time. If your EFC has changed you will have the opportunity to provide an updated Student Aid Report (SAR) for our records in the Update Application that will be sent to you in mid-June.

If you are admitted for the spring term, you can request an appeal application from Achieve Atlanta by emailing us. In this appeal application, you will be required to explain why you are not enrolling seamlessly (immediately after graduation in the fall) and provide documentation confirming your spring admittance. Please note that submission of an appeal application does not guarantee approval.

Achieve Atlanta Scholarships may not be used to pay for summer terms. Your first check will be sent directly to your school and will be applied to the fall 2020 term. We recommend you speak with your school’s financial aid office about summer term financial aid options.

No. The 4-year award is only available to be used a total of 8 terms or 4 years.

We will send one payment in the fall and one payment in the spring. If you wish to have part of your fall or spring payments disbursed to your winter account, please work with your school directly.

No. The 2-year award can only be used for technical or associate’s degree programs. However, if you complete your technical or associate’s degree and enroll in a bachelor’s degree program, you may be eligible to receive the $5,000/year award if you have remaining eligibility.

While attending GSU Perimeter, you will receive the 2-year award, which is $750 per term. When you transfer to the main/downtown campus, you will then be updated to receive the 4-year award, which is $2,500 per term. Your scholarship funding cannot exceed 8 terms total.

We require that Scholars seamlessly enroll – meaning you enroll in college the fall semester after graduating high school. If you would like to appeal this requirement, email or call 404-880-3500 to request an appeal application. Please note that submission of an appeal application does not guarantee approval.

If your home institution is sponsoring the study abroad program, you likely can use your Scholarship for that term. Every study abroad program is different, however. Please email us or call 404-880-3500 to discuss your study abroad plans in advance so that we can ensure the Scholarship is applied appropriately.

We begin to mail Scholarship checks in mid-July and will continue through the end of the summer. We encourage you to complete the Update Application promptly when you receive it in mid-June to ensure your check is processed early to meet your billing deadlines.

Scholars will receive emails and text messages with the most recent information on upcoming application dates. In general, the Scholarship is renewed at the end of every term and checks are mailed shortly after you submit your renewal application.

The schools that were listed on your Initial Scholarship Application do not determine where your Scholarship check will be sent. You will be emailed the Update Application in mid-June where you will be asked to list your final school choice, which is where we will send your check. If you have any questions about your school choices you can email us.
