Stability & Security: How Achieve Atlanta Improves Scholars’ Financial Well-Being and Academic Performance
October 2024
We are proud to announce the release of a second independent analysis of Achieve Atlanta’s Scholarship and services. A 2022 study by Georgia State University’s Georgia Policy Labs found that Achieve Atlanta Scholars were more likely to remain enrolled compared to similar students without the Scholarship and services. This new 2024 study examines other important student outcomes that impact student persistence and completion and shows that in their first term, Achieve Atlanta Scholars:
- Are less likely to take out student loans than similar non-Scholars, and when they do, they borrow lower amounts.
- Experience improvements in financial and mental health because of reduced borrowing.
- Earn more course credit hours and have higher GPAs than similar non-Scholars.
We summarize these findings in our companion piece, Stability & Security: How Achieve Atlanta Improves Scholars’ Financial Well-Being and Academic Performance.

Since its founding in 2015, AATL has impacted more than 20,000 students across the high school-through-college pipeline and issued $57 million in scholarship funds to nearly 6,000 Scholars across 355 institutions. AATL Scholars persist through college at higher rates than demographically similar non-Scholars and accrue less debt than the average Georgia college student.
